In December 2024, Cirque du Soleil’s OvO underwent a striking visual revival. Directed by Johnny Ranger with Mindroot Studio, this new iteration fused movement, light, and projection into an immersive spectacle.

As the lead artist for moving scenography, I crafted video content for the massive, mobile leaves that shaped the stage’s ever-shifting landscape. Using TouchDesigner, I conjured the illusion of organic light, casting shimmering glows and delicate shadows to breathe depth and nuance into each scene. These projections transformed the leaves into luminous, living entities—responding to the unfolding narrative with a quiet poetry of their own.

While my collaborators painted vast backgrounds onto the climbing wall, my focus was on making the leaves pulse with life, their hues shifting like whispers of the forest. This project—my first foray into circus arts—invited me to blend digital scenography seamlessly into live performance, revealing how light and motion can conjure a world where nature and technology dance in perfect harmony.
