Circle of Life.
In Terra Lumina, a night walk illuminating the Toronto Zoo, I was mandated to design and develop the Circle of Life, an interactive, luminous drum circle.
Spread your light around
by playing with the drums.
Wanting people to collaborate together while also letting them be free to play to the beat of their own drums, we created a flexible experience that connects people together. Each drum is unique in its sounds and colors, generating melodies no matter how much of an experimented musician our interactor is.
By collaborating together, everybody in the Circle of Life can trigger a mini-show of light and sounds that reinforces the message that together, we can make a change.
We explored a new pipeline using Ableton Live and TouchDesigner that enabled us to offer truly reactive drums.
Various user tests made it possible to create a strong and intuitive experience for all people.
